Mummies

Mummies are like ancient Egyptian time capsules that have preserved people and animals for thousands of years! The process of making a mummy, called mummification, took 70 days and was done by special priests who knew the secret techniques. They believed that preserving the body was essential for the person's journey to the afterlife. The mummification process was fascinating and complex. First, the body was cleaned and the internal organs were carefully removed and placed in special jars called canopic jars. The body was then covered in salt for 40 days to dry it out completely. After that, it was wrapped in hundreds of yards of linen strips, with magical amulets placed between the layers for protection in the afterlife. The most amazing mummies belonged to pharaohs and were buried with incredible treasures - golden masks, jewelry, furniture, food, and even board games for entertainment in the afterlife! When archaeologists discover mummy tombs today, it's like opening a window into ancient Egyptian life. Some mummies are so well-preserved that we can still see their hair, fingernails, and even learn what they ate for their last meal thousands of years ago!
