Giant Pandas

Back to China
Giant pandas are like living teddy bears with their fluffy black and white fur and round, chubby bodies. These amazing animals spend most of their day doing one thing - eating bamboo! A single panda can munch through 26 to 84 pounds of bamboo every single day. That's like eating hundreds of bamboo stalks! Pandas are excellent climbers and swimmers, even though they look cuddly and slow. Baby pandas are incredibly tiny when they're born - smaller than a mouse! They're pink, hairless, and blind, but they grow up to weigh as much as an adult person. Pandas love to roll around, play, and do somersaults, making them one of the most entertaining animals to watch. Sadly, there are only about 1,800 giant pandas left in the wild, all living in the mountains of central China. Thanks to conservation efforts, their numbers are slowly growing. Many zoos around the world have pandas on loan from China, and seeing these gentle giants up close is always a magical experience that helps people learn about protecting wildlife.
