Savannah Historic District

Back to Georgia
Savannah's Historic District is one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the United States, covering 2.5 square miles of the original city. The district features 24 beautiful public squares, each with its own unique character and history. Many of the buildings date back to the 1700s and 1800s, with gorgeous architecture including Victorian mansions, colonial homes, and historic churches. The famous Spanish moss that drapes from the ancient oak trees creates a magical, fairy-tale atmosphere. Savannah was founded in 1733 and is known for its friendly ghosts, delicious Southern food, and beautiful gardens. The city's unique layout with its squares was designed to be both beautiful and practical, providing green spaces for residents and helping defend the city in colonial times.
